SAN JOSE, Calif.—Commugny,VD—March 4, 2009— The Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA), the voice of the global semiconductor industry, announces the formation of the GSA Modeling Working Group under the EDA Interest Group through the merging of MOS-AK and GSA modeling efforts. With MOS-AK celebrating 20 years of enabling compact modeling research and development exchange and GSA continuing to be a force for global collaboration, integration and innovation for over 14 years, MOS-AK and GSA see this alliance as the next step in addressing the complex issues of compact modeling.

With today’s increasingly complex designs requiring a higher level of models and no common language within the compact modeling ecosystem, the Modeling Working Group's primary initiative will be to play a central role in developing a common language among foundries, CAD vendors, IC designers and model developers by contributing and promoting different elements of compact model standardization and related tools for model development, validation/implementation and distribution. While traditional modeling organizations only serve the vendor, the Modeling Working Group will address the entire compact modeling ecosystem.

The Working Group’s initiative will come to fruition by encouraging interaction and sharing all information related to compact modeling at all levels of the device and circuit characterization, modeling and simulations; conducting regular meetings with industry players and academia to exchange information on the strengths and weaknesses of the industrialization of compact models; and providing comprehensive reports and reference papers to accelerate the transfer of advanced compact modeling methodologies to the industry.

GSA's mission is to accelerate the growth and increase the return on invested capital of the global semiconductor industry by fostering a more effective fabless ecosystem through collaboration, integration and innovation. GSA will address the challenges and enable industry-wide solutions within the supply chain, including intellectual property (IP), electronic design automation (EDA)/design, wafer manufacturing, test and packaging, provide a platform for meaningful global collaboration, identify and articulate market opportunities, encourage and support entrepreneurship and provide members with comprehensive and unique market intelligence. MOS-AK is an independent European compact modeling volunteer group. The group was formed 20 years ago by local academic researchers and industrial modeling engineers in response to the industry-wide need for better compact models focused on advanced semiconductor technologies.
